Social Performance Management (SPM) refers to the systems that organisations use to achieve their stated social goals and creating value for clients.
The microfinance sector applies commercial means to achieve social ends. Microfinance institutions (MFIs) who translate their mission and values into measurable objectives are more likely to achieve strong social performance, such as: reaching the target market, delivering appropriate services, creating positive changes for clients and demonstrating social outcomes to external stakeholders.
This infographic report shows the outcomes of a SPM mapping among 26 MFIs in the Caucasus and Central Asia region over 2018. The research has been conducted in July 2019 as part of MFC’s ongoing efforts to promote social performance and support MFC members in SPM implementation.
The main strength of the sector is that most of the selected MFIs define social aspects and set the level of social goals as they formulated their mission, vision and values. MFIs that integrate a social lens into their performance management process benefit from satisfied clients and stakeholders, therefore the sector should take up the challenge to put more effort into monitoring and reporting social outcomes.
